Grace Denio Litchfield (November 19, 1849 – December 4, 1944) was an American poet and novelist. She was born in Brooklyn Heights in New York City on November 19, 1849 to Grace Hill Litchfield and Edwin Litchfield, an attorney. Much of her early years were spent in Europe. Her first book, ''Only an Incident'', was published in 1883, although she had begun writing much earlier. Her account of an earthquake on the French Riviera, ''In the Crucible'', was published in 1897. Her poems and stories were published in many popular magazines of the day, including Harper's and the Atlantic. Eventually returning to the United States, she lived in Washington D.C. for fifty years.〔(MS.417 )〕 She also kept a summer home on Central New York's Lake Minnewaska. Litchfield died in Goshen, New York on December 4, 1944. ==Notes==
